Returning Resident Housing Selection Process
What is Housing Lottery?
The Housing Lottery system is designed to give priority to returning residents who have a higher class standing, have completed their Fall course registration and Financial Aid process for the upcoming academic year. This allows students the highest availability for on campus housing. Lottery numbers are computer-generated random numbers and are assigned based on a student’s class year to determine who is first in line to select their housing. Lottery numbers range from 100-300 with 100 being “first in line” and 300 being “last in line.” *Students who do not currently reside on campus and are interested in housing for the fall 2026 semester must complete the new student Campus Housing Application.
Why housing lottery?
This lottery process is designed to give residents an opportunity to browse floor plans and select their own rooms which will later award a greater satisfaction amongst residents.
What do I need to do to be eligible for housing lottery?
All residents must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good academic, disciplinary and financial standing to live in campus housing and to participate in the housing lottery.
In order to enter the Housing Lottery process, residents will need to complete the Housing Intent Form which will be sent out on Monday, March 23rd and is due on Monday, March 30th. Students who do not submit the Intent Form before the deadline will forfeit their guarantee of priority placement for the 2026-2027 school year.
Residents will receive a lottery number AFTER the requirements listed below are completed:
- Register as a Full-Time Student for Fall 2026
- Obtain Conditional Approval from Enrollment Services
- Complete Returning Resident Housing Intent Form
Please be advised that room placements are contingent upon residents acquiring FINAL Clearance from Enrollment Services no later than Wednesday, July 1st. Failure to secure final clearance by the specified deadline will result in forfeiture of the initially selected room.

What if I can’t make it to any of the dates above?
Residents who are unable to attend their selection day may send in a proxy to choose their room. Your chosen proxy is authorized to represent you and may select a room on your behalf. Please choose your proxy carefully and complete the Proxy Representative Form by Monday, March 30th. Any resident who does not attend their housing selection and has not completed the proxy form will be placed by Campus Housing staff after the Housing Selection dates.
Can I keep my current room for next year?
Due to the Alumnae Hall renovations, residence hall spaces are limited. Therefore, residents are no longer permitted to keep their current room for the next academic year. All residents who wish to remain on campus for the academic year of 2026-2027 will need to participate in the Housing Lottery process.
Do I have to have a roommate?
Standard Single Occupancy rooms are available in Kerby Hall A/B wings for rising Juniors and Seniors ONLY. Premium Single Occupancy rooms are available in Kerby C Wing for rising Seniors and new graduate students ONLY. Please note that both the Standard and Premium single rooms are limited.
Therefore, single occupancy rooms are not guaranteed. The option to select a Standard or Premium single occupancy room will depend on the availability at the time of housing selection. If there are no single rooms available at the time of a room selection, residents will need to select a Double Occupancy room.
All rising sophomores are required to have roommates. We highly recommend that residents prepare well in advance and select a room with a roommate.
Double Occupancy rooms must be filled to the maximum occupancy at the time of room selection. Residents have the option of filling the maximum occupancy with a roommate of their choice or Campus Housing will select the next resident in queue to fill the vacant space in a Double Occupancy room. This is to ensure we have enough spaces for everyone who wishes to remain in campus housing.
How does having a roommate affect housing lottery?
Residents who wish to select a room with a roommate may choose to go with whomever has the lowest lottery number to optimize their selection opportunities. For example, if Resident A who has lottery #166 and Resident B who has a lottery #128 wish to live together, they can choose to use Resident B’s lottery number to check in.
It is required for intended roommates to attend housing selection together. However, if either person cannot attend, they must complete the Proxy Representative Form and select their roommate as their proxy. If the roommate with the lower lottery number cannot attend housing selection, the resident in attendance is still able to utilize the lower lottery number to check in.
