Health Insurance Overview
- Trinity Washington University is pleased to offer our students and their families Student Insurance Plan Options for the academic year including access to comprehensive health care at an affordable premium, access to preferred providers for less out of pocket and an online portal to help you better manage your benefits and claims.
- When you enroll in our student insurance plan, the Health and Wellness Center’s Nurse Practitioners will serve as your Primary Care Providers, managing all of your health needs right on campus in a comprehensive setting that is convenient for you and free of charge.
- All students are required to have adequate health insurance coverage while they attend Trinity Washington University.
- If you are a CAS student, you will be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan. If you have your own private health insurance, you can WAIVE the university-sponsored insurance plan to avoid being billed for the coverage beginning May 1, 2024 (Fall) or November 4, 2024 (Spring).

THE DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN STUDENT INSURANCE OR SUBMIT THE WAIVER FOR FALL 2024 is Friday September 6, 2024, and for SPRING 2025 is Wednesday January 29, 2025.
College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Students
Health Fee
- Full Academic Year 2024-2025: All full-time students in the College of Arts and Sciences will be assessed a $250 Health Fee for the 2024-2025 academic year. The health fee is charged at $125 per semester that you are enrolled at Trinity.
- This health fee provides students access to The Health and Wellness Center, which is staffed by Nurse Practitioners and a Mental Health Counselor.
- The Health and Wellness Center offers primary care services which include, but are not limited to: sick visits, STD screening, pregnancy tests, gynecological examinations, and physical exams. The Counselor helps students manage their stress, anxiety, depression, and a variety of other concerns.
- The Health Fee is mandatory, and cannot be waived.
- Spring 2025 New and Transfer Students: New full-time students starting at Trinity in the College of Arts and Sciences, will be assessed a $125 Health Fee for Spring 2025.
- This health fee allows students to access the Health and Wellness Center, which is staffed by Nurse Practitioners and a Mental Health Counselor for the Spring and Summer.

Comprehensive Health Insurance
- Full Academic Year 2024-2025: All students enrolled full-time in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) are automatically enrolled in the Trinity Washington University student health insurance plan offered by Cigna. This plan coverage is from 8/01/2024 through 7/31/2025 and allows you to utilize the Health and Wellness Center as your primary care provider while you are attending Trinity.
- The full Academic year insurance premium is $1,634.00. This amount is automatically charged to your student account as a bi-annual premium of $817.00 for the Fall and Spring Semesters.
- This amount is in addition to the $250 charged for the Health Fee stated above. Your total cost of insurance and benefits for the full year is $1,884.
- WAIVER: If you are covered under another comparable health insurance plan, you can waive the university-sponsored student health insurance plan by completing the waiver that provides proof of coverage by another health insurance provider. The waiver deadline for 2024-2025 insurance is Friday, September 6, 2024. No exceptions can be made after this date for waiver consideration. Click here to complete the Student Health Insurance Waiver Form beginning on May 1, 2024. Once the waiver is completed, your account will be credited for the insurance premium.
- BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO WAIVE THE TRINITY INSURANCE PLAN:
- We strongly recommend that you check with your insurance provider to assure continued health insurance coverage while at Trinity, specifically for diagnostic testing (lab work and x-rays) and referrals to specialists.
- In the past, students with high-deductible plans or out-of-state Medicaid plans have had difficulty accessing affordable care while away from their “network”. Check to make sure that your insurance plan or HMO allows you to access healthcare from the local community resources in Washington, DC.
- A note about HMOs: Some HMOs offer guest membership plans which provide healthcare benefits to continue at the same level when away from home. Please contact your HMO insurance provider to find out if this option is available.
- Spring 2025 New and Transfer Students: All new and transfer students enrolling in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) for the first time in Spring 2024, will be automatically enrolled in the Trinity Washington University student health insurance plan offered by Cigna. The plan coverage is from 1/01/2025 through 7/31/2025 and allows you to utilize the Health and Wellness Center as your primary care provider while you are attending Trinity.
- The Spring/Summer 2025 premium of $817.00 will be automatically charged to your student account for the Spring semester if you remain enrolled in the student insurance.
- This amount is in addition to the $125 for the Health Fee stated above. Your total cost of insurance and benefits for the Spring semester is $942.00.
- If you are covered under another comparable health insurance plan, you can elect to complete a WAIVER for the Spring semester to avoid being charged. A yearly waiver will again be necessary each Fall semester that you enroll in classes full time and have personal health insurance coverage. The waiver deadline for Spring 2025 insurance is Tuesday, January 21, 2025. No exceptions can be made after this date for waiver consideration
All other students – Voluntary Insurance Enrollment – NHP and PGS (BGS, EDU, and SPS) students
- All students are required to have adequate health insurance coverage while they attend Trinity Washington University.

Comprehensive Insurance
- Full Academic Year 2024-2025: All students enrolled in non-College of Arts and Sciences programs are invited to enroll in the Trinity Washington University student health insurance plan offered by Wellfleet.
- The annual premium of $1,884.00 is charged through our Program Manager A.J. Flood. The enrollment deadline is Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Click here to complete the Enrollment Form beginning on May 1, 2024.
- This plan coverage is from 8/01/2024 through 7/31/2025 and allows you to utilize the Health and Wellness Center as your Primary Care Provider while you are attending Trinity. Our comprehensive medical and counseling services are detailed here.
- This plan allows for dependents, at the cost of $1,884.00 annual for each additional dependent.
- Spring/Summer 2025 enrollment: Students enrolled in programs outside of the College of Arts and Sciences are invited to enroll in the Trinity Washington University student health insurance plan offered by Wellfleet.
