About Tutoring
The Academic Services Center offers free tutoring in a variety of courses to undergraduate students enrolled at Trinity. Because students learn in different ways and have varying needs, tutoring is done one-to-one, and in small groups. The one-to-one tutoring instruction is open to students who have been recommended by their instructor, advisor, or individuals who have discovered they need assistance to be successful in their classes at Trinity. Most tutoring services are available on a walk-in basis during specific hours; however, individual appointments will be arranged as needed.
Free tutoring is offered in various subjects, but we do not offer tutoring in specialty subjects. We offer content tutoring on a one-to-one basis designed to respond to individual learning needs quickly and flexibly. Tutors are Trinity students who excel academically and they are trained and directed by full-time professional staff as well as attend training meetings to remain current in tutoring techniques. Tutors are available to help clarify assignments and to illustrate ways to correct problems.
If you need help writing a paper or essay, the Writing Center and Writing Tutors can help.
Students who need tutoring may schedule an appointment in the following ways:
- Complete a Tutoring Request Form. The Director will follow up with you by email for details (if needed) or to provide you with information about meeting your tutor. If you do not receive a response within 2 business days, contact the Director again.
- Contact the Director of Academic Services to discuss your situation and request a tutor.
Faculty may refer students to receive tutoring and should encourage them to use Starfish to schedule an appointment. Students may receive up to 3 one hour appointments per week. Students may receive additional tutoring at the discretion of the Director.
If during the course of an academic term there is a need to provide group tutoring for special classes, the Director will hire, train and supervise tutors who will be available to offer group tutoring in diverse subjects. Every attempt will be made to offer group tutoring sessions at a time, and if possible place, that is convenient for students involved.
Walk-In Tutoring Help
Walk-in tutoring is available weekdays during the fall and spring semesters. Current students may visit the Math/Tutoring Center, located in the library, to meet with a tutor for in-person help on a first-come, first-served policy, but walk-in assistance may not be available for all subjects. In addition to walk-in tutoring, students may schedule virtual appointments using Starfish.
In an effort to meet the tutoring needs of Trinity’s students, we offer walk-in tutoring assistance. During the specified hours, tutors are available to assist students on a walk-in basis without scheduled appointments. Students should prepare for tutoring sessions by bringing their course materials and questions. Tutors will be on hand to cover a variety of subjects, answer questions, and provide tutorials on requested topics.
