Dr. Steven Gable Publishes an Essay in New Perspectives on Eighteenth Century

Dr. Steven Gable, Associate Professor of Philosophy, has published an essay in New Perspectives on the Eighteenth Century, Volume 22 (Summer 2025), a scholarly journal devoted to research about the 1700s. His article is titled “‘The Real Rebels to the Fair Constitution’: Edmund Burke’s Condemnation of Parliament’s War against the North American Colonies.”

The essay discusses Edmund Burke’s, a philosopher and former member of Parliament, efforts to defend North American colonies from acts of political subjugation at the hands of the British Parliament. These acts f political subjugation would undermine the British imperial constitution and “threaten Parliament’s own standing as a protector of popular freedoms”.
