How do I copy selected text from a label in one course to a label in another course?

If you wish to cut and past the content from one label area to another label, you can follow the steps below or you can walk through the ‘import’ process and just select the week that contains the content.

(The importing process is also the process you would use to to move activities, resources, assignments, or text from multiple labels at the same time.)

To review the importing process, you can view the follow FAQs:

  1. Login to Moodle. Click on the class FROM which you wish to take the content in the label.
  2. Once in your course, click on the gray ‘edit’ gear wheel in the upper right corner.
  3. From the drop-down menu which appears, click on the ‘Turn editing on’ option.
  4. Find the week/topic which contains the text that you wish to duplicate.
  5. Click on the ‘Edit’ drop-down menu in the upper right of that week.
  6. From the drop-down menu which appears click on the ‘Edit week,’ ‘Edit topic,’ or ‘Edit section’ option which appears.
  7. In the next screen, select all of the content you wish to copy to the new course and copy it. (The keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl+A on PCs or Cmd+A on Macs, will select all the content while the keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl+C or Cmd+C, will copy it.)
  8. NOTE: If you have a lot of formatting, tables, or images, you may want to switch to the HTML view and copy all of the code, to make sure you copy everything you need to make it look the same in the new course.
    1. Click on the first icon on the top row.
    2. Then click on the last icon in the last row to switch to the HTML view.
    3. Then select all of the content with the HTML code (The keyboard short cut, Ctrl+A on PCs or Cmd+A on Macs, will select all the content.)
  9. Close out of the update screen either by clicking the ‘Save changes’ or ‘Cancel’ buttons.
  10. Navigate to your new course.
  11. (The editing should still be turned on. If it isn’t, go through steps 2 & 3 again to turn on the editing.)
  12. Find the label/week into which you wish to put your content.
  13. Click on the ‘Edit’ drop-down menu in the upper right of that week.
  14. From the drop-down menu which appears click on the ‘Edit week’ or ‘Edit topic’ option which appears.
  15. In the next screen, paste all of the content into the ‘Summary’ box. (The keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl+V on PCs or Cmd+V on Macs, will pasted all the content  you copied.)
NOTE: If you have copied the HTML code, you will need to switch to the HTML view to paste it in successfully.
  16. If you want to change the name for the week, topic, or section, you can uncheck the box next to “Use default section name” and enter your own text in the box.
  17. Click the ‘Save changes’ button at the bottom of the page.
  18. You will be brought back to your new course’s homepage. You should now see the label content that you copied.
