Dual Enrollment Advisor and Data Specialist (CAS)

Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive university in the Nation’s capital, seeks an academic advisor and data specialist for Early College Academy and Special Cohorts in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The Academic Advising team at Trinity is committed to supporting students to complete their academic journey. This role involves helping students to develop independent skills to make and accept responsibility for academic decisions, discover personal interests and strengths leading to the creation of realistic academic and professional goals, and understand Trinity’s academic policies and procedures. Working closely with the Director of Dual Enrollment and Early College Programs, the Advisor for Early College and other Special Cohorts will help students stay on course with the chosen plan of study and be their first point of intervention. Trinity’s student body includes more than 1700 undergraduate and graduate students, including more than 700 students in its full-time daytime undergraduate programs in Trinity’s historic women’s College of Arts & Sciences and nearly 200 high school students in dual enrollment and early college programs.  We have women and men in other associate, baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in the School of Education, School of Professional Studies, School of Business and Graduate Studies, and School of Nursing and Health Professions.

Special cohorts in CAS include the following groups of students – General Dual Enrollment, Early College Academy (ECA), Advanced Technical Center (ATC), KIPP and CHEC Scholars. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the academic advisor assisting with the special cohort programs will closely monitor student success and retention by regularly tracking the academic progress of these students in their classes and referring students at risk or in need of additional resources with the primary objective to assist them with making informed decisions concerning their Trinity classes.

The academic advisor will have two areas of responsibility when working with advisees: academic advising & mentoring and data collection & analysis. The advisor responsibilities include the following –

  • Participates in the planning and execution of campus events for special cohort students such as New Student Orientation, Chat & Chew, and End-of-Semester academic events
  • Regularly monitors Early Alerts for special cohort students in Starfish
  • Regularly evaluates individual student academic progress by reviewing grades of special cohort students
  • Meets with all assigned students at least monthly and more frequently as needed
  • Communicates regularly with advisees about academic support resources and assists with academic success efforts
  • Contacts the appropriate supervisor when red flags are raised on any advisee perceived as at-risk
  • Manages the dual enrollment database, and collects, desegregates, interprets dual enrollment data from various programmatic sources, including grades, academic performance, student interests as well as other indicators to identify trends
  • Ability to convert the data patterns into a useful format, including data reports and presentations, to share with stakeholders
  • Prepares weekly reports regarding specific partnerships
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling or related fields (required)
  • Two years of academic advising experience at a college or university setting
  • Strong record keeping, data analysis, and case management skills highly important
  • Thorough knowledge of advising methodology and theory including models for traditional and non-traditional students
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Salesforce, Tableau, Microsoft Office (required)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in data visualization techniques and updating websites
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • English and Spanish proficiency is desirable
