Director of Institutional Research & Assessment

Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a Director of Institutional Research and Assessment. Reporting to the Provost and working with all deans, vice presidents and department heads, the Director is responsible for a range of data collection, analysis and reporting functions across all university programs and departments.  Trinity enrolls 1900 students and employs about 190 full-time faculty and staff, with another 200 part-time faculty and staff.  One of the nation’s historic Catholic women’s colleges, Trinity today is a diversified small university still sustaining the daytime women’s college but also operating coeducational professional and graduate programs in four academic units.  Trinity is also classified as a Predominantly Black Institution and a Hispanic Serving Institution.

The scope of Trinity’s Institutional Research projects includes these primary areas of focus:

  • Enrollment data from the point of admission through the student’s life cycle, with an emphasis on student persistence, retention and graduation, and including student demographic profile, prior educational experience, financial aid data, student satisfaction data and other relevant data to provide a wholistic understanding of student engagement and progress at Trinity;
  • Utilizing Clearing House data to track patterns of enrollment and overall success factors for students with diverse enrollment trajectories;
  • Academic assessment data including data sets arising from courses, academic programs and through the academic units indicating student learning outcomes, pedagogical effectiveness, areas for improvement, related data analysis for co-curricular programs;
  • Alumnae and alumni data indicating longitudinal effectiveness of Trinity’s programs including employment and employer satisfaction data, alum economic data across time, and other indicia of Trinity’s effectiveness;
  • Data about Trinity personnel including profile, credentials, retention, satisfaction, salary profile and other relevant personnel data;
  • As requested by the president, provost, deans and vice presidents, faculty and others, data supporting Trinity’s strategic planning and accreditation activities, benchmarking, stewardship reporting for grants, and other reporting requirements;

Priorities for data collection, analysis and reporting are:

  • Support for all accreditation and licensure reviews and reports, including
    • Middle States Institutional Accreditation
    • Specialized Accreditation with CCNE, CACREP, CAEP, ACOTE, CSWE and other specialized accreditors
    • Licensure agencies including the DC Board of Nursing, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and similar governmental agencies
  • Cooperation with fulfillment of reporting requirements for IPEDS, the NCAA and other required compliance reports.
  • Development and administration of constituent surveys and such other methodologies as may be relevant to support the collection, analysis and reporting of data required to demonstrate institutional effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should present at least 6-8 years of institutional research experience, preferable in a college or university and including experience supporting accreditation self-study.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field with a strong research component is required.
  • Demonstrable ability to analyze data using a variety of standard analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with current software solutions for institutional research.
  • Ability to create and manage a website with institutional data as a service to internal constituents.
  • Ability to work collegially with the Vice President for Information Services in development of the data warehouse currently accessible to users in Tableau.
  • Ability to train department heads and staff in good data collection, organization and analysis habits to facilitate a data-driven culture across the institution.
