Student Success Advisor – DC Student Cohorts

Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a Student Success Advisor – DC Student Cohorts who will be part of a dynamic team in the Center for Student Success.

The Student Success Advisor – DC Student Cohorts at Trinity Washington University is a 12-month, full-time, staff member with Student Affairs: Center for Student Success. The purpose of the Center for Student Success is to improve student enrollment, persistence, and completion through an integrated, systematic advising and academic success program across the university that includes the effective use of Trinity’s Starfish case management platform, data-analytics, and other student success tools.

Student Success Advisors are part of a team focused on ensuring student success at Trinity through close and continuous attention to student academic performance and co-curricular needs, personal challenges and professional ambitions.  Advisors must possess superior interpersonal talents, a deep interest in the well-being and progress of students through college, knowledge of contemporary research, and best practices that encourage student success of Trinity’s student body which includes more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including about 1,000 women in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts & Sciences.  Another 1,200 women and men enroll in associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree programs in the School of Education, School of Professional Studies, School of Business and Graduate Studies, and School of Nursing and Health Professions.

Student Success Advisors are crossed trained to support students in any unit but are assigned a caseload within distinct populations; they engage in intensive outreach to students assigned to them in order to provide wrap around holistic support.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree required in an appropriate area of specialization
  • Experience working in a related student-support role
  • Knowledge of DC Public Schools and DC Charter School system
  • Knowledge of the DC area

RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop programming for identified cohorts of students to provide support and mentorship specifically targeting students receiving support and funding specific to students with DC residency.
  • Produce regular reports and updates of retention and persistence data and analysis of DC students
  • Provide individualized holistic academic counseling and scholarship support to a case load of advisees to enhance retention and success.
  • Support students to understand the implications of financial aid and how this impacts their progress and success.
  • Identify and connect students with on and off campus resources to support students in their success.
  • Engage in intrusive and targeted outreach in response to students who are identified as struggling academically.
