Donald Graham

Dear students and colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Mr. Donald Graham will be our May 2018 Commencement speaker and honoree. Commencement is on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11 am on the library lawn. Congratulations to all students who are graduating!

Don Graham is a great friend to Trinity and our students. He is the founder of the D.C. College Access Program (DC-CAP) and led the way for the creation of the D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant Program (D.C. TAG). DC-CAP and DC-TAG have funded several thousand Trinity undergraduates since the programs began in 1999.

Additionally, Mr. Graham created TheDream.US, the program that funds our Dreamers at Trinity and nearly a thousand Dreamers nationwide. Mr. Graham’s personal generosity to the scholarship programs he founded, along with generosity directly to Trinity, make him one of the greatest benefactors supporting Trinity students.

Mr. Graham was the principal owner, chairman and publisher of the Washington Post until he stepped down in 2015 when Jeff Bezos bought the Post. Mr. Graham is the son of the late Katharine and Philip Graham; Mrs. Graham was recently featured in the film “The Post” starring Meryl Streep as Kay Graham, based on her autobiography.

Mr. Graham continues as chairman of Graham Holdings, Inc. a diversified media and education business. A graduate of Harvard, where he was the editor of The Crimson, Mr. Graham also served in Vietnam, and upon returning from the war, he became a member of the Metropolitan Police Department for several years before joining the Washington Post as a beat reporter.

We are so pleased to be able to recognize and thank Mr. Graham for his amazing support for our students, and he will have a wonderful message to share with our graduates.

Students who are graduating should be receiving more instructions from Dean Bowie. We will also provide more information on the website.

Again, congratulations to all students who are graduating in May!

All the best,

President Pat McGuire
