Pope Francis’ Visit to D.C.

This is the schedule for Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, D.C., during his Apostolic Journey to the U.S., as released by the Vatican; it is subject to change. After his visit to D.C., he will continue his journey to New York City and Philadelphia; see schedule.

Tuesday, September 22

4:00 pm: Arrival from Cuba at Joint Base Andrews

Wednesday, September 23: TRINITY IS CLOSED ALL DAY

9:15  am:  Welcome ceremony and meeting with President Obama at the White House

11:00 am:  Papal Parade along the Ellipse and the National Mall (time approximate)
This is the only public appearance of the Pope and your best chance to see him. All other events are private, ticketed events. For the Papal parade, security gates will open for the Ellipse and the National Mall at 4:00 a.m. and will close at 10:00 a.m. No one will be admitted into the area after that point in time. No food or drink may be brought in from the outside, but concessions will be available for purchase. Once inside the perimeter, attendees will not be allowed to leave and re-enter until the Holy Father’s Popemobile tour is complete. Read more.

11:30 am:  Midday Prayer with the bishops of the United States, St. Matthew’s Cathedral

4:15  pm:  Mass of Canonization of Junipero Serra, Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  This is a ticketed event. If you have a ticket from your parish or other organization, be sure to review this page for transportation information and rules about what you can and cannot bring to the mass.

Thursday, September 24

9:20  am:  Address to Joint Meeting of the United States Congress
You can watch the address online by visiting speaker.gov/pope and the address will also be broadcast on television by C-SPAN. Trinity will host a live broadcast of the Pope’s speech on campus in Social Hall, followed by a discussion led by Sr. Mary Johnson, DND.

11:15 am:  Visit to St. Patrick in the City and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington

4:00 pm:  Depart from Joint Base Andrews
