Safe Exam Browser (SEB) Resources for Faculty
Welcome to the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) Resources for faculty page, your one-stop hub for everything you need to successfully implement SEB in your courses. Here, you’ll find the SEB download link, step-by-step setup guides, and troubleshooting tips to ensure smooth exam administration. You can also access ready-to-use syllabus language and announcement templates to help communicate SEB requirements to your students. For student support, this page includes a direct link to the Student SEB Setup Guide, so learners can easily install and test the browser before their exam.
Download SEB
Students must use the latest version of SEB to ensure compatibility and reliability. Instructors do not need to download and install SEB.
- Windows: Download SEB for Windows
- macOS: Download SEB for macOS
(Note: SEB is not compatible with Chromebooks. iPads are supported only if your exam template allows it, but Moodle Support recommends using a PC or MAC)
Faculty Setup Guide
Follow these steps to enable and configure Safe Exam Browser in your course:
- Choose a template
Most Trinity courses use the Nursing 2 preset. This preconfigured setting automatically applies SEB restrictions.
Please Note: If you create your own quiz template (rather than using the Nursing 2 template), inform students that they must download and use the specific configuration file associated with your quiz. Remind them that configuration files from previous exams or other courses will not work with your quiz settings. - Enable SEB in your LMS quiz settings
- Go to your quiz or exam.
- Under Browser Security, select Require Safe Exam Browser and choose the preset.
- If using a custom template
- Generate a SEB configuration file (.seb).
- Post the file in your course for students to download.
- Remind students that they must open the exam through the configuration file for the settings to apply correctly.
- Create a practice quiz
- Set up a low-stakes Practice SEB Quiz early in the semester to help students test their installation and avoid last-minute issues.
- Communicate early and clearly
Include SEB expectations in your syllabus and course announcements (see templates below).
Download the SEB Faculty Setup Guide (PDF) Moodle Support recommends using the preset Nursing 2 template for all quizzes.

Safe Exam Browser (SEB):
This course uses Safe Exam Browser (SEB) for secure online exams. SEB must be installed on your computer prior to the first quiz. A Practice SEB Quiz will be available in the course for you to test your setup. If your quiz uses a configuration file (.seb), you must download and open it before starting the test. Students should use a web browser (Google Chrome recommended) rather than the OpenLMS mobile app to access SEB exams. Should you run into any issues with SEB, please review the SEB Resources for Students page or contact Moodle Support.
