Trinity Basketball January Recap
Trinity Basketball continues to compete and get better with each game. This past week Trinity competed against St. Elizabeth, Regent and Hollins. There was a great team effort in a one point lost to a well-coached St. Elizabeth University team with second year guard Taryn Yancey finishing with a game high 21 points, followed by second year guard Brenae Ford with 17-, and third-year Keisha Cooper contributing 13 points. The Trinity Tigers were able to bounce back, with a win against a competitive Regent University team led by second year guard Taryn Yancey with a game high 22 points, first year Dominique Davis with 16 points off the bench, and third year Keisha Cooper with 12 points in a great team win. This was Trinity’s first home game win of the year with a final score of 72-48! The crowd was energetic, the team was ecstatic, and this was the boost our Tigers needed to head into the next game vs Hollins with some momentum! The Tigers displayed good teamwork, played with high energy, and had fun winning a home game in front of a great supportive tiger crowd. Dominque Davis also received the “Eye of the Tiger” Award for her contribution. The “Eye of the Tiger Award,” will be presented to our players at home games based of their performance. These young ladies have set high expectations for the remaining games of the season. Trinity Tigers put up a good fight vs Hollins but came shy of 9 pts in a loss to Hollins over the weekend with the final score of 67-76.
We talked to head coach Angela Richmond after the game Tuesday and here’s what she had to say “These young ladies have been dealing with so much adversity this year that they were deserving not only to win a home game but to have fun and do it in front of our home crowd. They played together and it looked good. We matured as a team this year and hopefully everything will transfer into the next game and next season. They are getting better each game and winning at home gave them a lot of confidence to go into the next game. I’m so excited, this is just the beginning of a new culture!”
You can catch your Trinity Tigers at home this week with another 3-peat, we’d love to see you out in the stands. Let’s go Trinity Tigers!!!
