Trinity Basketball 2022-2023 Season Preview

Trinity Basketball is looking forward to new beginnings under the direction of Head Coach Angela Richmond. Coach Richmond recently served as the Varsity Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Frank W. Ballou High School for the past seven years. As the head coach at Frank W. Ballou Senior High School she led the team to the DCIAA playoffs consecutive years, also qualifying for the DCSAA state playoffs consecutively and made it to the DCSAA Single A State Championship.

Coach Richmond shared her outlook on the upcoming season “This will be a great season win, lose or draw! As a young team, we have time to build, learn, and gain experience quickly. The players are eager to learn and have bought into the culture I am trying to establish. We have been working really hard to prepare and compete this season. This season will be a success because we will get better and gain experience that we can build on.”

Athletic Director, Monique McLean, shared her thoughts, “I am very excited to have Coach Richmond join our athletic department and lead our women’s basketball program. Her success at Ballou shows that she knows what it takes to build a successful women’s basketball program and her passion for developing our women’s basketball players on and off the court is unmatched.”

Trinity Basketball was ranked in the NCAA Top 50 for offensive rebounds last season (15.6 per game) and are looking to build on their hustle and grit from last season. Four returning sophomores are expected to lead the way this season (Taryn Yancey, Danet Harris, J’Kaylah Beasley and Jewel Joyner). Yancey averaged 17.3 points last season, Joyner contributed with her offensive rebounding and Harris and Beasley dished out assists and served as floor generals. Newcomers Laila Carson, Dominique Davis, Keisha Cooper and Na’Kiya Butler are expected to add some depth, hustle and positive energy to the mix.

The Tigers are looking forward to opening their season at home on November 11th versus Penn State Fayette at 6:00 PM.

All students, faculty, staff, fans, family and friends are welcome to attend!
