Victory is Sweet!
Trinity President, Pat McGuire, enthusiastically tweeted as the Tigers took on Sweet Briar in their home opener yesterday. The Tigers were in attack mode on the offensive end taking several shots throughout the first half. Brittney Smith, scored with 30 minutes left in the half, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Sweet Briar quickly responded with a goal of their own tying the game 1-1.
First-year student-athlete Madeline Kopka scored an unassisted goal minutes later to send Trinity into the break with a 2-1 lead. The Tigers gathered themselves at halftime and came out with the same energy in the second half. Minutes into the second half junior Karol Barahona-Bonilla scored an unassisted goal to give Trinity a 3-1 lead. Trinity’s defense held off the Vixens for the rest of the half.
Head coach Alex Ughiovhe shared his thoughts after the game, “Today was a great team victory and I’m very proud of the girls. It was a hard-fought game but we should have capitalized on the chances we created in the first half. We’ll enjoy this victory and the weekend, then we’ll get back to work on Monday.”
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, September 7th as they take on Notre Dame of Maryland at 4:00 PM.
