Policy: Work Study & Student Employment

The first phase of student hiring will be for students who have been awarded work study through the Federal Work Study Program. The Federal Work Study Program is administered by Student Financial Services. Student Financial Services will provide the Office of Human Resources with a listing of all eligible students. This listing will be updated as changes take place.

After students who have been awarded work study have been hired into available jobs, students who have not been awarded work study will have an opportunity to be hired into remaining available jobs.

Student Employment is limited to a maximum of 15 hours per week. Currently student wages (20 hours and under) are not subject to FICA taxes.

Supervisors should use discretion in scheduling students. It is important to remember why our students are here. Academics must be a priority.

Students should work in only one office during a semester. Exceptions must be approved by the Director of Human Resources.

Compensation:

All student workers will be paid at the current Washington, DC minimum wage rate.
