Transfer Credit Policy
Trinity accepts transfer credits from institutions that are recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEA) (“institutional accreditors”).
Trinity may also transfer credits through Advanced Placement (AP), American Council on Education (ACE), College-Level Examination (CLEP), Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs based on the achieved score. Students may also demonstrate learning through the Trinity Experiential Life-long Learning (TELL) portfolio assessment for transcript credit.
Transfer Credit Maximum
Students in most baccalaureate programs may transfer up to 75 credits to Trinity. To meet the residency requirement for graduation, 45 credits of the 120 required for the bachelor’s degree must be completed at Trinity. Note that some programs (such as nursing and programs under specialized accreditation) may have different transfer credit policies.
International students wishing to transfer courses from an institution outside of the United States must submit official transcripts with course-by-course evaluation from one of the agencies accredited by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
A maximum of six transfer credits may be granted for transfer to a graduate degree program. Courses eligible for transfer must have been completed at an appropriately accredited institution and taken at the graduate level. Each course must have been completed no longer than five years prior to the date of matriculation. Requests for transfer credit must be relevant to the degree sought.
Grade Requirements
To qualify for transfer, undergraduate courses must have been completed with a minimum final grade of “C” or better (course with grades below “C”, including “C-“, are not eligible for transfer), and graduate courses must have been completed with a “B” or better (course with grades below “B”, including “B-“, are not eligible for transfer). Certain academic programs require higher grades to count toward major or minor requirements. Transfer courses taken at the undergraduate level must be applicable to Trinity’s liberal arts curricula. These courses may satisfy general education and elective requirements; program chairs will determine if the courses may satisfy prerequisite, major, or minor field requirements. Transfer credits at the graduate level must be applicable to the curricular requirements for the respective degree program.
Non-Transferrable Coursework
- Developmental or Remedial Courses
- Courses that are not letter graded (P/NP, Credit/Non-Credit, AU, etc.)
