Letter from Speaker Nancy Pelosi ’62

Letter from Speaker Nancy Pelosi ’62

The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Trinity ’62, had planned to be with us on Saturday for the 125th Anniversary celebration including her class reunion, and to announce the Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi Chair in Global Affairs and Politics.  Speaker Pelosi and her husband Paul Pelosi generously endowed this chair to ensure that Trinity will continue to educate, inspire and send forth graduates who will accept the great challenges of public leadership, citizens and advocates for Democracy, human rights, equity and justice for all.  We are deeply grateful to Speaker and Mr. Pelosi for their amazing gift and love for Trinity.  Sadly, a horrific act of violence against Mr. Pelosi last Friday changed all plans, but even as she rushed home to San Francisco, Speaker Pelosi remembered alma mater and sent the beautiful letter, below, that her classmate and great friend Rita Murray Meyer ’62 read at the convocation.  We pray for Mr. Pelosi, Speaker Pelosi and the entire Pelosi family, and we pray that our nation will find a way to defeat the evil impulses of hatred and violence that are corrupting our society and endangering our ability to live in freedom, security and peace.
