History reveals that many eras of darkness and crises are followed by times of growth and powerful change, a true renaissance. As we approach Trinity’s 125th Anniversary, our plans for Trinity’s future leverage what we have learned in this very challenging era to create a stronger, more resilient and creative university to serve future generations.

In Fall 2019, we conducted a survey of Trinity graduates across the decades from 1950 to 2019. The results are quite remarkable.

With heavy hearts Trinity shared the sad news that President Emerita Sr. Margaret Claydon, SNDdeN, Class of 1945, passed away on February 1, 2020, at Mount Notre Dame in Cincinnati.

Each of us, in our own way, have insights and reflections on Sr. Margaret’s life, work and legacy depending on how we experienced our relationship with her as students, colleagues, sisters in community, family and friends; over time, for some of us, our relationship changed as we grew and took on new roles.

Margaret’s remarkable achievements in the world of academia and society at large are amply recorded. Here, it seems appropriate to examine how she “directed her life” in the spirit of Notre Dame.

Sr. Margaret Claydon was an exemplar of the ideal Trinity Woman: a leader of penetrating intellect, firm faith and inquiring mind, whose keen sense of purpose and courage to question the status quo was an inspiration to all who walked through our school’s halls.

“You can make a difference. The opportunities can be small or large, and they can happen frequently. And, usually they don’t require you to be a superhero. What are you – Trinity graduates – with your good fortune, uniqueness and ability to make a difference, what are you going to do? We’re counting on you.”

Heartened to witness the amazing generosity of so many alumnae, alumni, friends, families and others who supported the university in 2019-2020.

Covid-19 is changing the landscape of the world as we know it. Stay-at-home orders, social distancing and work from home routines have provided us with a new normal. How do you handle this new normal if you’re a nurse working with patients with Covid-19?
