Campus Update: Fall 2015

“Grit Will Keep You Moving – Audacity Gets You Soaring!”

These were the inspiring words of Trinity Commencement speaker Patty Q. Stonesifer, president and CEO of Martha’s Table and the founding CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Thousands gathered on the Main Lawn for Trinity’s Commencement, at which Stonesifer told the graduates to be bold and audacious, and to always keep in mind: “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”

Martha’s Table is a major nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., that supports families and individuals working to break the cycle of poverty by providing healthy food, affordable clothing and quality education. Earlier this year, Trinity formed a partnership with Martha’s Table to provide a degree program for early childhood education teachers.

Stonesifer was presented with an honorary doctor of letters for her untiring commitment to service to those in need and for her exemplary leadership for social justice. “In choosing to devote her time and talent to the neediest citizens of this city and this region – those who are hungry and sometimes homeless, who need education and who are often marginalized – Ms. Stonesifer truly embodies Trinity’s values of social justice and service to others,” said President Pat McGuire.
