Admission Pathways to the School of Nursing and Health Professions
The School of Nursing and Health Professions (NHP) admits students who will benefit from and contribute to a Trinity education and who will be able to meet the standards for graduation. When considering candidates, the Admissions Committee evaluates a number of factors: past academic records, scholastic aptitude, letters of recommendation and a student’s personal statement. Special talents, high motivation and academic and social involvement are important factors in the consideration of a student’s admission to the program. A student’s admission to Trinity’s School of Nursing and Health Professions depends upon several factors, including the major the student selects.
Applicants enter NHP through varying paths and must meet the minimum qualification as outlined by the respective program.
- Occupational Therapy Assistant: Before applying for formal acceptance into the Occupational Therapy Assistant program in the School of Nursing and Health Professions, students must apply for admission to Trinity and show evidence of successful achievement of all occupational therapy assistant prerequisite courses. This pertains to first-time students, transfer students, and those who have earned a baccalaureate degree from Trinity or another appropriately accredited institution of higher learning.
- Pre-Licensure Nursing (B.S.N.): Before applying for formal acceptance into the Pre-Licensure Nursing program in the School of Nursing and Health Professions, students must apply for admission to Trinity and show evidence of successful achievement of all nursing prerequisite courses. This pertains to first-time students, transfer students, and those who have earned a baccalaureate degree from Trinity or another appropriately accredited institution of higher learning.
- Nursing: (R.N .to B.S.N.): Applicants who are registered nurses holding an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing or who are NCLEX eligible within one semester of enrollment can apply to the RN to BSN program directly through the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
- Second Degree B.S.N: For applicants who hold a baccalaureate degree from Trinity or another accredited institution of higher learning (or foreign credential evaluation service equivalent), Trinity offers the opportunity to earn a Baccalaureate of Science Degree (BSN) in Nursing. Upon admission to Trinity, second degree B.S.N. students enter the School of Nursing and Health Professions as nursing candidates. When nursing candidates are in their final semester of completing prerequisite nursing courses, they are eligible to submit an application for formal acceptance into the nursing program.
- Other Allied Health Programs:
- Health Services (B.A.): Students may enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Professional and Graduate Studies declaring Health Services as a major. The major is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Professional and Graduate Studies; however, students take courses in collaboration with the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
- Public Health (B.S.): Students may enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences declaring Public Health as a major.
- Social Work (B.S.W.): Before applying for formal acceptance into the Social Work program in the School of Nursing and Health Professions, students must apply for admission to Trinity and show evidence of successful achievement of all Social Work prerequisite courses. This pertains to first-time students, transfer students, and those who have earned a baccalaureate degree from Trinity or another appropriately accredited institution of higher learning.
Applications from qualified students of diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged. Trinity admits students without regard to race, religion, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or disability.
