Nursing Receives CCNE Accreditation

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) approved accreditation for Trinity Washington University’s nursing programs:

• Trinity’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, up for its first accreditation, was granted CCNE accreditation for three years, and may be approved for up to five years after submission of an interim report in 2018.
• Trinity’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program received CCNE accreditation approval for the next ten years, extending its current accreditation through 2027.

“We are very pleased to receive CCNE accreditation for Trinity’s nursing programs,” said Trinity President Pat McGuire. “These successful accreditation decisions reflect extraordinarily hard work on the part of many colleagues as well as our students and graduates. I recognize and congratulate, in particular, Dr. Denise Pope, Chief Nursing Officer, and the nursing faculty and staff; Dr. Mary Bantell, who is responsible for the MSN program; and Dr. Mary Romanello, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions. In just the last 12 months, the School of Nursing and Health Professions has conducted self-studies for both of the nursing degrees as well as both of the occupational therapy degrees, welcomed visiting teams for all of those programs, and achieved successful results in all cases. Trinity’s programs in the School of Nursing and Health Professions are strong and will continue to grow with each success!”

“We thank our many health care partners, including top hospitals in the region, for supporting Trinity nursing students during their clinical experiences and internships,” said Dean Romanello. “Health care professionals in the area also support Trinity’s nursing students as preceptors, guest speakers and adjunct faculty,” she added.

“Our graduates bring their talents and dedication into the greater Washington workforce,” said Dean Romanello. “Eighty-one percent of Trinity’s 2017 graduates are employed locally. Ten Trinity nursing students completed 2017 summer internships at Children’s National Network, Providence Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and Washington Hospital Center.”

Trinity students learn in state-of-the-art nursing labs in the new Payden Academic Center, equipped with 16 hospital beds and three highly advanced, computer-controlled “simulation manikins” that emulate real-life patient symptoms and on which nursing students can practice skills and procedures. There is a “SIM Mom” that gives birth (photo, right), a “SIM Man” that displays neurological and physiological symptoms, and a “Pediatric SIM” – providing students patient scenarios across the lifespan. MSN: Nurse Educator Track: Become a career educator for academic nursing education or nursing professional development in a clinical setting; sit for the National League for Nursing Nurse Educator Certification Examination
