President Patricia McGuire announced the launch of the Trinity Leadership Scholarship program that guarantees a $10,000 scholarship to every new first year student who is admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences, Trinity’s undergraduate college for women, starting with the class that enters in fall 2016. Students must apply to Trinity by March 1 and follow additional guidelines. The $10,000 scholarship ($5,000 each semester) will be renewed each year for students who maintain satisfactory academic progress as a full-time student at Trinity, with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Update: Applications submitted by May 1 will be considered on a case-by-case basis as long as a 2016-17 FAFSA application has been submitted.
“Trinity is fully committed to making higher education accessible and affordable,” said McGuire. “We already provide more than $10 million in direct financial aid to our students every year. Trinity’s tuition, and our net tuition, is among the very lowest among private universities in D.C. With this scholarship, we are making a clear and powerful commitment to women who seek a college degree, and we are streamlining and simplifying the financial aid process, which can be challenging for students to navigate. In addition to the Trinity Leadership Scholarship, Trinity staff will work with students, families and guidance counselors to assist students through the process, every step of the way.”
McGuire noted that the $10,000 Trinity Leadership Scholarship is the guaranteed minimum an accepted student will receive. Students may also be awarded need-based Trinity scholarships and Pell grants, and scholarships for D.C. residents, resulting in a larger financial aid package from Trinity. “Many of our D.C. students pay zero dollars out-of-pocket for tuition and that will continue with this new Trinity Leadership Scholarship program,” McGuire said.
The program will start with the class of Trinity students who will begin in the fall 2016 semester.
McGuire added, “So many of our students are women who have exhibited extensive service in their communities, held leadership positions in their schools, and have overcome some of life’s difficulties to excel both personally and academically. The Trinity Leadership Scholarship recognizes the many talents and experiences that our students bring to our campus community.”
To be eligible for the $10,000 Trinity Leadership Scholarship, a student must:
- Apply to the College of Arts and Sciences, Trinity’s undergraduate women’s college, by March 1. There is no fee to apply to Trinity. Update: Applications submitted by May 1 will be considered on a case-by-case basis as long as a 2016-17 FAFSA application has been submitted.
- Be accepted to Trinity.
- Complete the 2016-2017 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online by May 1. The online FAFSA is at: www.fafsa.ed.gov . Trinity’s FAFSA code is 001460.
- Enroll full-time and continue to enroll full-time each semester.
After the student completes the FAFSA form, students may be awarded additional need-based scholarships from Trinity, may be awarded Pell grants for low-income students (up to $5,815, depending on the student’s financial need), and may be eligible for other aid. More than 80% of Trinity’s full-time students in the College of Arts and Sciences receive Pell grants; 100% of all students in the College receive some form of financial aid.
An Annual Scholarship: The $10,000 ($5,000 each semester) scholarship will be renewed each year as long students maintain satisfactory academic progress as a full-time student at Trinity, with a minimum 2.0 GPA, and complete their FAFSA every year.
D.C. Residents
D.C. residents may be eligible for additional grants and scholarships that will increase their Trinity financial aid package and reduce the amount they pay out-of-pocket for tuition. More than half of Trinity’s students are D.C. residents, and Trinity educates more D.C. residents than any other private university in the nation.
To be eligible for the Trinity Leadership Scholarship, D.C. residents must apply for:
DC-TAG (D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant; $2,500 per academic year for eligible students): Apply at https://dconeapp.dc.gov/ (Applications due by June 30, 2016.)
D.C. Mayor’s Scholars Undergraduate Program. Learn more at: http://osse.dc.gov/mayorsscholars
