Senior Tiara Bland ’12 Awarded St. Catherine Medal at Cap and Gown Mass

Trinity senior Tiara Bland ’12 was awarded the prestigious St. Catherine Medal at Cap and Gown Mass on September 25, 2011.  Bland, a human relations major who has a minor in education, is from Windsor Mill, Maryland.  Bland has distinguished herself as a scholar and student leader in many ways. She transferred to Trinity and immediately became an active participant in campus life. She is serving her second year as president of Trinity’s Campus Activities Association, she is a tutor for Trinity’s Academic Services Center, and has been involved in many educational and community service projects both on and off campus.  She has been on the Dean’s List for the last two years and, after graduation, she plans to earn her doctorate in psychology.

The distinguished award is named after St. Catherine of Alexandria, a third century scholar renowned for her love of learning.  She is honored as the patron of philosophers. This award is given by Kappa Gamma Pi, the National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society, to recognize an outstanding senior who reflects the ideals of St. Catherine.  Trinity is a member of Kappa Gamma Pi, and selects the recipient based upon a review of the academic, co-curricular and leadership achievements of the candidates.
