Kaye Gapen Named Vice President and Provost

President Patricia McGuire named Kaye Gapen as Trinity’s vice president of academic affairs and provost. In announcing her appointment, President McGuire said that “Provost Gapen is well known to the Trinity community as the director of the Library and Academic Services. She has done an exceptional job for the last two years in that role, and I am so pleased that she is willing to take on this additional leadership role for Trinity.”

Provost Kaye Gapen has a long and distinguished career in higher education. A graduate of the University of Washington where she earned her B.A. in sociology and master’s in library science, she began her professional career at the College of William and Mary, and then on to Ohio State and Iowa State. She became dean of the libraries at the University of Alabama, and then became dean of the General Library System at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where, among other duties, she oversaw the construction of a $20 million wing to the main library. She then became director of the University Library at Case Western Reserve University where she oversaw the construction of a $35 million new library along with the integration of new academic technology systems. Taking a break from academe, she started her own consulting company — Northern Lights — specializing in information design and content management in digital environments.

President McGuire noted that “Provost Gapen’s considerable experience in the construction of library and academic facilities, along with her long expertise in academic and instructional technologies, will bring great strength to Trinity’s management team as we enter the next construction era — planning and building the new University Academic Center that will include new classrooms and instructional spaces, labs, common areas and space designed specifically for modern library and academic technologies.” She added, “Provost Gapen is also a delightful colleague, insightful manager, and someone who is deeply devoted to the success of all Trinity students and faculty. She has a clear vision for the future of Trinity’s academic and intellectual life in service to our city, region and the larger global community our graduates influence each day. I know that all members of this community will enjoy working with her in this new role. Please join me in extending congratulations and thanks to our new Provost Kaye Gapen.”
