Pelosi is now the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government, the first woman to be third in line to the U.S. presidency.”

black_cathleen.jpg“As head of Hearst Magazines, one of the world’s largest publishers of monthly magazines, Black oversees 200 international editions in more than 100 countries,” notes Forbes magazine. “Enough to keep anyone busy, but 2007 has been notably hectic for Black with the publication of her book, “Basic Black: The Essential Guide for Getting Ahead at Work (and in Life),” with tips and insights from business notables such as Rupert Murdoch and Oprah Winfrey. Black is known as “The First Lady of American Magazines,” having made history as the first woman publisher of a weekly consumer magazine, New York Magazine. Black also turned USA Today into a success story, where she was both president and publisher. Titles under her watch include Hearst’s recent launch of its first weekly in the U.S., Quick & Simple, along with heavyweight titles like Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and O, The Oprah Magazine, which was number one on Adweek’s Hot List last year. International development is now key at Hearst, along with expanding its magazines’ presence on the Internet.”
