Dr. Elizabeth Child Named Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
President Patricia McGuire announced the appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Child, associate professor of English, as the interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
In her announcement, President McGuire said: “Dean Child succeeds Dean Anne Henderson who is moving to the College of Notre Dame of Maryland to be closer to her home in Baltimore. We will miss Dr. Henderson very much, and we are so grateful to her for her hard work, loyal service to the CAS faculty, and deep devotion to the success of all Trinity students. Among many accomplishments resulting from her leadership and hard work, Trinity had a highly successful Middle States Self-Study and accreditation review, created a bold new general education curriculum for students in the College of Arts and Sciences, and initiated a new First Year Experience with learning communities — a concept widely recognized today as a keystone for student success throughout college. ”
“Dr. Child is exceptionally well qualified to lead the College during this interim period. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Virginia, with a double major in English literature and French and a minor in Italian, Dr. Child earned her master’s degree in English literature at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and her Ph.D. in English Literature at the University of Maryland. Dr. Child joined Trinity’s faculty as a visitor in 1999, then onto the tenure track and tenured in 2006. Dr. Child has been chair of the English program and has served on numerous committees while also teaching a broad range of courses and staying active in scholarly and professional work. She is well respected by her faculty peers, and will provide strong leadership for the College through this transition.”
