The Campaign for Trinity’s Second Century Surpasses $23 Million

The $30 million Campaign for Trinity’s Second Century is on target for successful completion prior to the opening of the new Trinity Academic Center in the fall of 2016. The Campaign priorities are to substantially support the $40 million construction costs and to raise $5 million for scholarships. More than $18 million has been raised toward the building campaign and the scholarship fund is fast approaching its goal. Naming opportunities for the 12 laboratories for Nursing and Science, 22 classrooms of various sizes, faculty offices, and significant indoor and outdoor spaces are available. Important national and corporate funders have recognized Trinity’s vital educational mission by awarding significant gifts to the Campaign for Trinity’s Second Century. A grant of $75,000 from the Hearst Foundations supports scholarships for undergraduate female students in the College of Arts and Sciences. These prestigious awards will go far in providing financial aid to deserving low-income students over the next three years.

CareFirst/Blue Cross of the National Capital Region Supports Campaign

The first corporate gift was received from CareFirst/Blue Cross of the National Capital Region. The award of $125,000 will be used to purchase vital equipment for the simulation lab in the new Trinity Academic Center. Instruction and learning using simulation manikins and advanced computer programs allows students to demonstrate skill competency and to broaden their understanding of myriad health and medical scenarios that can be covered in a safe, structured environment. A grant from CareFirst will support the purchase of two SimMoms, two infants and a birthing bed for maternal and child health training. Additional simulation manikins will be purchased with support from other funders. The simulation lab will be used by nursing, occupational therapy, exercise science and health science faculty and students.

Shannon Scholarship Fund Established

Mary Shannon ’60 and her family have created the Shannon Scholarship Fund at Trinity. Eight freshmen have successfully completed the first semester as Shannon Scholars and met with Mary Shannon in early January 2015. The Shannon Foundation’s remarkable vision intends to extend support for these students through their senior year, and award another cohort of freshman Shannon Scholarships in the fall of 2015.
