Employment: Senior Vice President and Medical Director, National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH); Professor and Chairman, Departments of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine, Georgetown University Hospital and Medical Center.
Accomplishment of which you are most proud: My appointment as medical director at Harlem Hospital and working as a neurologist in the Harlem community in New York for 25 years.
Last book read: Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese.
My idea of a perfect vacation: Spending time at our farmhouse on our hill in Tuscany, Italy.
If you were stranded on a deserted island you would want to have: My wife, Cheryl, of course. And books, but especially collected works of favorite novelists (Thomas Wolfe, Thomas Hardy, Dickens e.g.) or history (The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire) that only on a deserted island will I have the time to read. Also the CDs of The Great Courses from The Teaching Company. And a star-gazing telescope.
The three people I would most like to have dinner with: President Obama, Nelson Mandela, and Bill Bryson (author of A Short History of Nearly Everything).
How did you first learn about Trinity? I first came to the Trinity campus in about 2005, when NRH and Washington Hospital Center first started the very successful collaboration with Trinity on the cardiac rehabilitation program at the Trinity Center. I met President McGuire and her team at that time and I have been interested in Trinity ever since.
What motivates you to serve as a trustee? I believe very passionately in the power of education and particularly its impact on young men and women who have been less advantaged. Trinity’s mission to serve that community is very engaging and exciting. Plus, it is just very enjoyable to spend time with Pat and her team and the Board.
