Visiting Instructor of Communication

Trinity Washington University is seeking a visiting instructor to teach two sections of COM 150/PHIL 150: Critical Reasoning and Oral Argumentation, and two sections of COM 290: Public Speaking in the Fall 2021 semester. COM 150/PHIL 150 is a required course in the first-year curriculum, designed to help students develop critical reasoning and oral presentation skills. The course is structured around several standardized assignments, including speeches of fact and of value. COM 290 is a required course in the first-year curriculum for our Early College Academy, a partnership between Trinity and Coolidge High School. Students enrolled in this class are rising 11th graders.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should have earned at least a Master’s degree from an accredited institution, in Communication, or another related field, and should be able to demonstrate strong teaching skills. A background in teaching effective communication techniques, as well as experience teaching dual enrollment students, is highly desirable.

Official transcripts for all degrees earned, sample course syllabi, course evaluations and/or other evidence of teaching effectiveness, and contact information for three professional references will be needed if the candidate is invited to campus for an interview. Knowledge of best teaching practices is required. Finalists will be invited to campus for an interview and teaching demonstration. Preference given to candidates who demonstrate excellence with engaged and active learning practices.
