Letter to the Senior Class from the Dean of Students

September 1, 2011

Dear Trinity Senior:

The Trinity community is preparing to formally welcome the Red Class of 2012 to senior status during Cap and Gown Weekend, September 24 – 25, 2011. Please note that only seniors in good standing are eligible to participate in the Cap and Gown Ceremony. Students on probation will be considered ineligible. If you are uncertain of your academic status or eligibility to participate, please contact Enrollment Services.

On Friday, September 23, 2011, seniors should attend rehearsal at 6:00 pm in O’Connor Auditorium. The Dean of Student Services Office has arranged to have a photographer from 3:00 to 7:00 pm for senior portraits in the Rose Parlor. This means that you should bring your cap and gown with you to Trinity on Friday if you wish to take senior portraits.

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, the Cap and Gown Convocation will begin at 5:00 pm in the Trinity Center. Robing for the seniors will take place at 4:30 p.m. in O’Connor Auditorium. Families and friends are invited to attend Convocation.  Trinity graduate Maisha Leek ’03, chief of staff to Congressman Chaka Fattah, will give the keynote remarks. There will be a President’s Reception immediately following the Convocation in the Trinity Center.

Sunday’s activities begin with the Cap and Gown Mass at 10:00 am in Notre Dame Chapel. The seniors will robe at 9:15 am in O’Connor Auditorium. A brunch for seniors, their families, their guests, and faculty will be served in Alumnae Hall immediately after the Mass. The traditional courtyard sing begins at 12:30 pm and each class will gather on a designated side of Seymour Court and sing songs to the senior class. Families and friends are invited to enjoy the celebration.

Complete the online RSVP form for Cap and Gown Weekend by Wednesday, September 21, 2011. The cost of brunch for guests is $10 per person and payment should be brought to the Dean of Student Services Office, Main 223.

You must purchase a cap, gown and tassel from the Trinity Bookstore for $28.98. Caps and gowns will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, September 15, at 12:00 pm.  After that date you may make your purchase during regular bookstore hours through Saturday, September 24.

I hope that you and your family will be able to join us for these very special occasions. If you have any questions concerning these events, please feel free to call my office (202) 884-9611. I look forward to celebrating with you. Congratulations!

Sincerely,
Michele Bowie
