1976 Class Notes for 2015

Greetings Class of 1976,

Thanks to all who took the time to respond this year. We all love hearing about the adventure our classmates experience each year.

Ann-Dillon Dalton Costa and husband Tom bought a second home in Old Town Alexandria. They enjoy exploring the area and spending time with their son who is a national political reporter for The Washington Post. The nicest benefit has been in reconnecting with classmates in the area.  Dillon hosted a 60th birthday party with Denise Hindle Camara, Mary Farrell Robinson, Anne Courtemanche and Susan Flood Burk all in attendance. Two of her four children are married, a son in Chicago and a daughter in Atlanta and were looking forward to the birth of their first grandchild.

Jeanne Gropp-Wedig retired in 2012 after 33 years as an international flight attendant. She volunteers at the local hospital. She and husband Frank travel to Spain a couple of times a year as well as to Hawaii. Gail Berger andKaren Smith keep in touch with Jeanne.

Mary Farrell Robinson enjoyed celebrating turning 60 at Dillon’s party. In addition, she took a Viking Cruise down the Rhine River with her mother Annemarie Cowhig Farrell ’48, and her sisters Anne Farrell Clark ‘77, Kate Farrell Mayne ‘78, Margaret Farrell Goggins ‘85, and Jane Farrell DeCoursey ’87.

Kathy Devine Hendrickson and husband Chris traveled to China toured Beijiing and Xi’an. The universities they were visiting provided escorts which was a great way to see the country.

Susan Flood Burk completed basic training to be a certified mediator and continues her work with the AAUW of Virginia. She and Ann Marie Courtmanche saw Sue Heyer Brunner for breakfast. Last fall Liz Maher’s swing through town brought Susan and Ann Marie together with Mary Lynn Rampolla, Ann Friedmann Schara and Liz Bracall out to dinner.

Louise Hallahan Stakelin and husband Bill sold their historic home and moved to a townhouse overlooking the Ohio River. Soon afterwards, Louise lost her father.  Louise and Bill took a long planned Mediterranean cruise and made a trip to cheer on daughter Meaghan in the NJ State Olympic Triathalon in Princeton. While in the area Louise caught up with Cathy Leary Bradley ’75. Her son Brett, who lives in Denver, announced his engagement. Louise hosted a luncheon where Sr. Rose Ann Fleming discussed her book “Out Of Habit”. Louise says it’s a great read.

Maribeth McGarraghy Spitz writes that things are good in Virginia. She got to design a Class A space for Transwestern when they consolidated three offices. Son Michael was married last year which was a wonderful time for the family. She and Chris spent time in Naples, FL in the winter, visited son Chris in NYC last summer and joined daughter Leslie for a moonlight bike ride in Richmond. Her daughter Erin is doing well in the ob-gyn practice, loves the Virginia Hospital Center where she is now on the board of the department. Maribeth occasionally gets together with Margo Cella and Margaret Suzor Dunning for dinner.

Emily Herbst has been busy. In addition to gardening, she’s working three days a week as a paralegal. She’s planning post-retirement to work with seniors and the Onondago County Historical Society. Emily attended the Trinity at Lake George luncheon in July. She and her sister took a trip to Chicago over Memorial weekend where they visited with a former neighbor. They took an architectural cruise on the Chicago River and visited the Art Institute.

Carla Goheen Loughlin had a visit from Nancy Schott last summer and reports that Nancy’s heading to the Peace Corps in the Ukraine. Carla found that Liz Maher managed to leave them a surprise bottle of wine on their Queen Victoria cruise. She’s in the process of moving to Alaska to be with her daughter and family. She’s in touch with Carin Forlenza Moran who now has two grandchildren.

As for me, the elder care work is booming and the medical massage practice fits in well with that work and keeps me busy.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in this year.
